Cavendish Golf Club members were deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Peter Greenwood on Tuesday 27 October.
Peter, a member for nearly 20 years, passed away peacefully at home, having been unwell for some time. A wonderful character with a quick wit he was formerly a member of Buxton & High Peak Golf Club before joining Cavendish with his wife Pauline in 2001.
Details of funeral arrangements will be released when they are available. Our thoughts and sympathies go to the family and all his friends at this difficult time.
Peter’s wicked sense of humour and willingness to throw himself into any situation – particularly if it meant dressing up – created laughter at every turn.
At one of last pre-lockdown social events held at the club, Peter was resplendent in his Peaky Blinders tee shirt and matching cap!
When you bring Peter to mind you just have to smile and the family have devised a fitting farewell tribute to him. Peter’s daughter Jo Ohara has published details on her Facebook page.
Please see below details of their ‘Out with a Bang’ Fireworks Party and how you can take part:
Peter Greenwood’s ‘Out with a Bang’ Party
Fireworks please – Saturday 14 November at 7pm
(Remember Peter, 14th November!)
We’re so sad to tell you that Peter died on October 27th 2020, aged just 78, peacefully at home.
We, his family, would like to say a last goodbye in a vibrant, creative, colourful and spectacular way as a nod to the man he was.
We can’t gather the folk that loved him to pay tribute to his passing so we’d very much like anyone who wants to to do the following …
At 7pm on the 14th please raise a glass in your garden and light a firework or two for Peter. We as a family can then look up at the sky and know that you are joining us in your thoughts.
Peter was well known to Buxton as a man for many committees, serving in the Round Table, The Lions, BADOS and latterly at the Cavendish Golf Club. Peter liked to help people and could often be found fundraising and generally lending a hand. Many may recall his shop on the Market Place, High Peak Tools which he and Pauline ran for many years.
Always keen for a party, we think Peter would approve of this plan, so please join us from the safe distance of your own garden and wherever you are in the world please help us light up the sky. Given the restrictions of covid, we can’t gather with friends so we’ve set up a Facebook page called, ‘Thank you for being Peter Greenwood’ and we’d love it if anyone has any comments, memories or photos they can share.’
