With ample parking, the clubhouse is a popular venue for private functions particularly wedding receptions and funerals. Our dining room and board room also offer ideal spaces for small business conferences. Please contact us for details.
The Cavendish Clubhouse offers many amenities including a well-stocked licensed bar and a well-appointed and comfortable lounge with spectacular views over the course from the terrace area. The terrace provides an idyllic haven to relax with a drink after a game and to soak in the scenery.
We have excellent catering arrangements and can provide meals from traditional club fare to formal dinner events. Just off the main lounge, we have a separate dining room that can seat 50 comfortably and also a well-appointed members spike bar. The Club has a reputation for being relaxed and friendly, with regular social events for members arranged throughout the year. Members prefer informality as the rule and so smart casual dress is quite acceptable throughout the club.
Our excellent hospitality services are provided by Cavendish Views.
Cavendish is a club that is inclusive of all golfers with dedicated sections for all ages and gender. We promote activities within the different sections of the club as well as holding many mixed competitions throughout the year. Find out more about our different sections below.

Information about the club and our club captains
Bob Clark, Club Captain 2023
I have been a member of Cavendish Golf Club on and off for 40 years.
I was born in Harpur Hill to a family of eight children and I left Kents Bank School at the age of 15 years old to become an apprentice Mechanical Tool Fitter.
My career developed when I joined the Merchant Navy as an Engineer Officer with Cunard and Blue Starling
When I left the Merchant Navy I got married and lived in Longnor for 10 years where I was a part-time Fireman and a member of Longnor Parish Council.
I then joined ICI and became a Leading Hand fitter and Apprentice Coordinator for 32 Apprentices with additional responsibility as a Fire Security Officer.
For 10 years I was an exam Moderator at Stockport Technical College.
I retired from ICI at the age of 50 years old and with two colleagues we set up and ran our own Safety Training Company in First Aid, Fire Safety and Manual Handling.
Besides playing golf, my hobbies include supporting local football, caravaning and serious walking.
My charity this year is Broughton House Veteran Care Village.
I would like to wish all our members a very happy, enjoyable and successful year and of course, I will be looking forward to being out on the course playing with you the people that make the club, the Members.

Pam Brindley, Lady Captain 2023
I have been a member since 1983 and this is the second time I have held the position of Lady Captain.
I joined with two other lady friends after we had been encouraged by our husbands who were already avid golfers. I was unsure initially if it was my sort of thing not really being a sporty person, however after some lessons in the winter in a church hall, then on the course, and with the help from enthusiastic members, I soon found I was becoming just as keen as my husband albeit on dry, nice days only!!
I joined the ladies committee four years later and spent two years learning how the ladies section worked. I was then Lady Vice Captain in 1995 and became Lady Captain the following year 1996.
This was a wonderful time for me. My committee worked tirelessly to ensure all ran well and the ladies of the club supported me greatly.
Each Lady Captain has a special day when she provides the prizes and organises the day and my Lady Captain’s Day was especially memorable.
After my year came to an end, it was suggested I might stand to be elected to the Board. I am proud to say I was the first lady to be elected by the membership on to the Board. I worked with the Green’s Chairman and I was fascinated and interested in how a golf course is cared for, particularly when the Agronomist visited to give our Greens staff his advice.
I served on the Board for 4 years and then put up for re-election, and I am proud today I was promptly re-elected and served for another 2 years.
After a little break I was asked if I would become Lady Secretary and I held this post for 8 years, enjoying every minute.
I then considered that my time was now my own to concentrate on my golf, but in 2021 I was asked by Rachel if I would consider being Lady Captain again for 2023. I thought about this for a short while and decided that as it would be my 40th year as a member it would be a wonderful way for me to celebrate this.
Now a little about the course:-
Originally there was Burbage Ladies Golf Club but in 1925 Cavendish Golf Club moved to its present position and became an 18 hole golf course and a mixed female and male membership. The club had a very healthy membership with players coming from Macclesfield and Leek, as well as Buxton. There was a very active social side but a lot of that was curtailed with the drink drive laws making it impossible for our further afield members come to events. With the extension of Macclesfield Golf Club to an 18 hole course we lost some members but over the years we have made up these losses up and continue to have an extremely good number of keen active members.
Over the years members have volunteered their abilities to help with changes to bring the course and the club house we have today, and I am proud to say I am a member of Cavendish.
The ladies section season starts after Coffee Morning get together in March and competitions are then run regularly until October..
We play each Tuesday and Thursday for various competitions, most of which are for silver trophies. We play individual competitions as well as Knockout competitions in pairs. We have silver and bronze team who play home and away matches throughout Derbyshire. This is a lovely way to meet new people from other clubs and play their course for free. It also means that when we have our Open competition in August lady members are able to invite people they have met to come to play our course in their own team of four. Our Open is a wonderful friendly day where our ladies can entertain their new friends, and in return will be invited to join them on their Open days.
It has become the norm over the years for the present Lady Captain to organise a weekend away for all the ladies. This year I have arranged the trip to Oulton Park near Leeds. We arrive on the 6th August, play golf, have dinner, bed and breakfast, then play golf the next day before leaving for home. Prizes are awarded each day and the “Tripper’s Trophy” is awarded to the team or individual on the second day. These trips are thoroughly enjoyed by all ladies and enhances the friendship we all experience.
The Ladies Section is run by a committee of ladies keen to ensure that the year runs smoothly and the traditions of the club are upheld.
New members are warmly welcomed and helped and encouraged to participate not only in playing golf but also in the social activities of the ladies section and the club.
Being a member of Cavendish ensures friendship, camaraderie, exercise, and a few hours break to enjoy yourself.
If you are thinking of trying golf, why not come along? I can assure you that you will be warmly welcomed.

Taking in the stunning views!
After our round of golf we meet in our lovely clubhouse to have a drink or lunch and take in the stunning views of the golf course. In the summer months the terrace is a fantastic spot with the best views in Buxton. We have recently refurbished the clubhouse which looks fantastic. This is the perfect setting for our many social events, dinners, BBQs, and entertainment. It has what’s often called the ‘best beer garden in Buxton’ and many a summer evening can be spent on the terrace with a chilled glass of wine. The clubhouse is not just for members, anyone can come along and enjoy the great atmosphere and amazing food. We welcome family members to join us at the clubhouse and there are many family-orientated events throughout the year.
This is a lovely quote from one of our newest lady members:
“The Cavendish Golf Club has a great women’s section, super friendly, they really helped me get started playing the sport. I love golf! If anyone locally is thinking of having a go, please get in touch”

Ladies’ Bridge Group
Apart from golf we have a cheerful bridge group who meet twice a week and are always on the lookout for new players.
Alex Needham, Junior Captain 2023
I first became interested in golf about 7 years ago when I was about 11. I started at the driving range, then tried a few holes on the course and was instantly hooked!
I have been a member for about 5 years and I had a handicap of 33 but over the last two years handicap it has dropped to 21.
At the moment my favourite player is Tiger Woods.
Over the next year along with our Pros Lee and Liam, I want to help other junior players whilst also trying to get rid of my own bad shots!!
With a growing group of juniors at the Club there has never been a better time to get into golf and to come and enjoy the things I love so much about Cavendish.
I am proud to say that in 2022 for the first time our juniors entered a team into the Golf Foundation GolfSixes competition and won the local league. Well done Cavendish.

The Senior Section at Cavendish Golf Club is an active group for the over 55s and offers a warm welcome to all, especially new Senior Members to the Club.
The Seniors meet every Monday, Wednesday and Friday morning, for an informal competition starting at 10 am. We put everyone’s golf balls in a bag and draw them out in threes and fours to decide teams on the day, thereby mixing up playing partners. There are also specific Seniors Competitions for members during the season.
We also play friendly Senior matches against local clubs from April to September. We have around 14 Senior matches (7 home and 7 away), with teams of 12 to 16 playing in pairs. These matches start at around 9.30 am, and generally include coffee and bacon baps beforehand and simple one course meal afterwards.
Several Senior Open Competitions are also arranged throughout the year, which are very popular and open to members and visitors with a number prizes.

Senior Captain 2023
