Annual Alister MacKenzie Society vs The British Golf Collectors’ Society competition.
On July 5th spectators in the outer courts stands at Wimbledon were sheltering under their umbrellas and saw no tennis whilst waiting for the rain to stop. Up North, golfers arriving at Cavendish Golf Club in Buxton were greeted by warm sunshine and a light breeze. The course was prepared to the usual high standard, and for the wayward the rough proved to be punishing!
Many members regard this spirited annual match between the Society and the British Golf Collectors’ Society for the MacKenzie Kist as an event not to be missed. For those playing with hickory shafted clubs, Cavendish has proved to be an ideal course for hickory players to employ their century-old clubs.
The captain of the BGCS team, Simon Grimoldby, claimed a brief grip of the trophy, before acknowledging heavy defeat by 51/2 matches to 11/2 and handing the Kist back to Bob Fletcher the Alister MacKenzie Society captain.
