Saturday 21st June saw the first ever Joint Captains Day in our 100 year history.
The forecasters had warned of potential thunderstorms but thankfully we only had a couple of refreshing showers as the largest ever numbers of competitors at 171 enjoyed warm sultry conditions right into the evening.
Play began at 7am and continued uninterrupted until the last tee slot of the day at just before 4pm. The course was set up with a number of tough pin positions that made scoring challenging at each and every hole and ensured a tightly packed leaderboard.
The Captains and Natalie were joined by a host of volunteers throughout the day at the halfway house where refreshments and much needed sustenance was available !!
The Ladies theme for the day was Green & Gold – our club colours, all had made a great effort using plenty of imagination to support the theme, even the refreshments at the halfway house were colour themed too!
After play, the Ladies met at 6pm for a refreshing cocktail aptly named “Pot of Gold”, before having a delicious meal, which of course was themed too! Ricardo prepared a delicious Thai green curry even though he kept reminding us he was an Italian chef!
On a glorious Mid-Summer evening, as the late starters began to finish their rounds music and laughter spilled out from a packed terrace – the best pub garden in Buxton.
Right on cue at 830pm the Prize Presentations took place for both sections with Rachel and Anna announcing the Ladies winners and Jeff and Phil the Men’s winners.
Ladies overall winner with an impressive 40pts was our Ladies Vice Captain Andie Curtis and winner in the Men’s section with a terrific net 64 was David Roy, with the Best Gross prize of 72 being achieved by Neil Booth.
Congratulations to Andie, David and Neil together with all the other place and spot prize winners.
Our fantastic membership created a superb and lively atmosphere that saw revellers dancing and chatting away through to midnight.
Anna & Phil would like to thank each and everyone of you who joined them on the day and helped to make our Centenary Captains Day such a wonderful experience with special thanks to the amazing Cavendish Teams of House, Greens and professional.
