Created by Dr. Alister MacKenzie and opened in 1925, Cavendish is one of over 100 golf courses around the world that he helped to design. Particularly notable among these are The Augusta National and Cypress Point in USA, Royal Melbourne in Australia and of course, Cavendish, here in Buxton.

In 1923 the Duke of Devonshire requested MacKenzie to design an 18 hole golf course in Buxton and the link with the Cavendish family has remained to date. The course has retained virtually all of the features present in MacKenzie’s original design, making full use of the natural features and providing a true test for golfers at all levels of ability. Not long by modern standards, it requires accurate play to the demanding greens, which have left many visitors longing for a return to our exciting course.

Cavendish exemplifies MacKenzie’s belief that “length has nothing to do with the quality of a hole”.

The abundance of wildlife such as buzzard, sparrow hawk, kestrel, deer and hares can be a distraction even to the most focused player, but we believe that it adds to the experience of playing in this quiet, private area of Buxton.

There are two types of golfers – those that have played Cavendish and those who wished they had.

By far the best course around, everything from value for money, challenging holes, set up/layout of the course. The greens are in superb condition. Will 100% be going back and playing the course again as nothing else comes close! A golf course every single golfer should experience!

I’ve always enjoyed playing Cavendish as a visitor but this summer I took the plunge and joined as a member. What a great move it has been! I’ve made many good friends already, the atmosphere in the clubhouse is fabulous, and the course is one I will never tire of playing.

No-one will ever play Cavendish and think that they’ve played a short course! It’s a wonderful place and I recommend it wholeheartedly. Well worth the beautiful 40 minute drive from Stockport to get here!

What a course, if you get a chance to play it, do it! Some lovely par threes, and some real testing par 4’s. The greens are a different level. Up there with some of Surreys top courses.

Excellent is a good place to start when expressing my/ our opinion of Cavendish Golf Club. The exuberance from the Captain, Rachel in the Pro Shop, all the other Members with whom we spoke and the Catering Staff was tremendous. The course far out reached our expectations, it was in very good condition – a testament to the Ground Staff. I look forward to my return if only to master the Green on the 14th Hole – thank you Dr Alister MacKenzie.

Excellent round of golf! The course and greens were in very good condition and the staff were really friendly. I particularly found the complexity of the greens a great challenge. Highly recommend a round here!

Classy course in the heart of some stunning Derbyshire countryside, right on the edge of the delightful town of Buxton. You’ll have read that already on their website or elsewhere and it’s all true. Catch the course on a sunny day, without too much wind if you’re lucky, and you’ll enjoy a rewarding round with plenty of features to keep you on your toes. One fairway can be soggy after rain but otherwise the course was *immaculate* on our outing in May despite some recent heavy downpours. We enjoyed the many spank-worthy high tees demanding out best placed drive and lovely, challenging greens – some gladed in woodland, others more open and exposed… never a dull moment. In our experience, staff could not have been more welcoming – which is always the perfect way to start a relaxing and enjoyable round. A treat from start to finish.

I don’t play golf but the club house is open to non members what a fabulous place to dine. Homemade food at its best and a great place for a party with magnificent views

Course Open . Buggies medical reasons only
