Cavendish Golf Club member, Alan Jones, attended the R&A Rules School from 4th-7th February at St Andrews. The course was well attended with 96 delegates attending from as far afield as Australia, South Korea, China & Vietnam as well as southern Africa, eastern Europe and Scandinavia.
One of the instructors was non-other than Kevin Feeney, formerly a junior member at Cavendish, and now one of the European Tour’s chief referees, who Alan described as a very knowledgeable and approachable individual.
In Alan’s own words “The exam was pretty tough (I would say that wouldn’t I! but all of the other delegates I spoke two were of the same opinion)” but we are pleased to say that Alan surprised himself, passing with a mark of 75%, and has now applied to England Golf to register as a qualified rules official. Alan is hoping that he gets the opportunity of adding to his refereeing experience while back in the U.K. during the summer.
Luckily for Alan, there was one special moment from the course as the R&A brought out the famous Claret Jug and put it on display for the delegates to all admire.
