Junior Open Results – Sunday 30th August

It was a stunning morning at Cavendish Golf Club on Sunday with an early morning mist, heavy dew but bright sunshine. Mind you, at 7.5 degrees Celsius it was also pretty nippy and there were plenty of interesting warm-ups going on as the first players prepared to tee off at 8.40.

First up were the juniors, all bright and bushy-tailed and eager to get off to a good start. The first at Cavendish is not the most difficult hole but that first shot in a tournament, especially with a medal card in your pocket, is always challenging. The girls led the field off and Eryn Gravett (Astbury GC) and Olivia Streets (Chesterfield & Cavendish) had steady starts as they slowly warmed to the task.  The pairing of Nathan Bush (Grange Park GC) and Gabriel McGurk (Chesterfield) were the first boys out, and like the girls ahead, they eased into the round, both scoring nett pars.

Local knowledge is a big advantage at Cavendish and the greens in particular take some getting used to. You don’t get many flat putts here!  As the Competition got into full swing there were plenty of good scores being put together as well as a few holes to forget!  But the competition was played in great spirits and all the youngsters enjoyed both the experience and the company. Thanks you to all the players for a fantastic competition and thanks also to the parents and family members who accompanied the players both to get them here and out on the course. We hope you enjoyed your day.
