Golf Guide Tour: Cavendish

‘Intriguing & wonderfully deceptive course!’

Over 1000 feet above sea level, sits the Mackenzie designed Cavendish Golf Club.

The Golf Guide Tour made its first visit to this intriging and wonderfully deceptive course – measuring 5700 yards from the white tees – how hard could it be??

This “up and down course” as described by our visitors certainly gave them something to think about and for some kept them thinking about their shots for a while after too.
The intermittent early morning showers disappeared to be replaced by a challenging breeze which tested our players to the full proving that courses don’t need to be long, its all about keeping the ball in play. The course even managed to make one golfer leave the course “retired hurt” after just a few holes (the disclaimer for the course as it was a pre round back injury).
At the half way point, 35 points was the highest score in the clubhouse until Eddie Sterling and Paul Room from Wychwood Park GC posted a great score of 41 points.
Eddie and Paul had ripped up the front 9 scoring 25 points before the course started to get revenge on the back 9.  Shortly afterwards Toby Swinney and Jordan Johnson from Crewe Golf Club also had 41 points managing a back 9 score of 20 points and taking the overall lead.
Nobody else managed to better this score so well done to Toby and Jordan – you have booked your place on the plane to Spain this November.
Terry Chaplin from Abergele GC had the unenviable task of playing without a partner after a late morning mix up from his playing partner, but still managed to score 31 points, his score beating 6 pairs on his own which was a great effort.
A special mention must go to Anthony Lowndes (Cavendish green keeper) for his work in preparing the course and the challenging pin positions. His knowledge helped him secure NP on the 3rd to win the Whitley Neill Gin, unfortunately according to his partner Chris Thyer he forgot where the rest of them were leaving him to score on most of the remaining holes!
All the pictures from the day are now on Facebook – golfguidehq – please Tag yourselves in and leave comments which will be much appreciated by ourselves and more importantly Cavendish GC.
