On Sunday 8th March, International Women’s day, Chris Campbell and Rachel Child entered their first Speed Golf Competition at Stanedge Golf Club, organised by the Girls Derbyshire County squad to raise money for Sports Relief.
The event attracted 34 players, of all ages, playing a 9 hole alternate shot game in pairs. Speed golf, for those who don’t know, times how fast you play the round, the timer starts when the first tee shot is taken and stopped when the last putt is holed, the time is then added to the shots taken (minus handicap). A maximum of 7 clubs per pair were allowed at this event and sharing clubs was allowed, although the only club Chris and Rachel shared was a putter.
Playing in the last tee time at 1.10pm the sun was out and the rain held off. They took 51mins to play the front 9 holes, despite having to use a mat on the fairways…a few minutes were lost when the mat got left behind on the 5th green! They loved every minute of it, Derbyshire County Girls squad did a fantastic job of organising the event, raising over £1000 for Sports Relief. Chris Campbell is now in talks to see if a similar event can be held at the Cavendish so brush off your trainers and start stretching!
