Hot hot hot! …briefly
Summer has finally returned, and the weekend begins on a hot and sunny note. We’ll have a small taste of the current European heatwave this weekend as temperatures will climb above 25C for Saturday afternoon (starting around 14C at dawn). Winds will be from the south which may be rather blustery and gusty at times. There’s a chance of cloud bubbling up through the afternoon to give a late burst of rain with a chance of a localised thundery burst forming over the Pennines.
A cooler change will move in by the time we reach Sunday, and we say goodbye to the heat for the time being, as winds turn to the west or northwest for several days into next week.
Sunday will be bright, breezy and fresh, with highs of 17 to 21C. Passing showers are possible, mostly into the afternoon.
Next week may see occasional showers, but lots of dry weather should be expected as high pressure resides near to the British Isles. Ideal summer weather in many respects, with pleasantly warm days of 18 to 22C, and fresh nights dipping to 10C or below. Temperatures may lift as the week goes on, but a genuine heatwave looks unlikely for now.
